Why Rumble Supershake is the Best Protein Drink for Pregnancy + Breastfeeding

We know athletes need to eat well to perform their best - by balancing protein, healthy fats, and energizing carbs, they fuel their bodies for endurance and strength. This is why so many athletes love the natural nutrition of Rumble Supershake. But one of the questions we're most frequently asked is if Rumble is suitable for the biggest endurance challenge of all - pregnancy.

In short - yes! Here’s everything you need to know about drinking Rumble while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Rumble during Pregnancy

During pregnancy, women are advised to consume an extra 250 calories in their second trimester, and an extra 500 calories in their third trimester to compensate for the additional energy they store and expend making a tiny human.

A popular adage for pregnant women these days isn’t to “eat for two” but to “eat twice as healthy.” As Rumble team member Danielle knows, that’s not always easy.

“When I was pregnant, I didn't get any weird food cravings," she says. "I mostly just craved food in general. My body wanted me to eat more, but I was so used to my usual meal-and-snack routine that it was a bit of a challenge to think of healthy ways to add the needed calories without going overboard on treats.”

Rumble was a huge help for her. “Since each carton is 220-250 calories and nutritionally balanced, it was so simple for me to supplement my diet in a healthy way throughout my pregnancy - just by having a Rumble a day. Plus I loved that I could satisfy my chocolate cravings with the Dutch Cocoa flavour.”

The best part of all? Rumble has 2000mg of Omega 3's, including DHA, which is an essential nutrient in the early stages of life. "I felt like I was really doing myself and my baby a favour by having a Rumble each day, says Danielle, "because of the DHA Omega 3 content in each bottle."

The only thing pregnant women might want to watch out for when drinking Rumble is the caffeine content. Many health authorities recommend limiting caffeine to no more than 200mg-300mg a day while pregnant. Vanilla Maple Rumble is caffeine-free, but Dutch Cocoa Rumble contains a small amount of caffeine - only 15 mg - from Fairtrade Organic Cocoa. Coffee Bean Rumble has 94 mg of caffeine (similar to a small cup of coffee) from the real Colombian coffee in every bottle. Plant-based Latte has 84mg of caffeine from cold brew coffee, whereas Plant-based Cacao has only 10mg - from Fairtrade Organic Cacao.

Rumble at the Hospital

Rumble is also a great option for a convenient, healthy snack to store in your hospital bag.  Because it’s shelf-stable, you can keep it ready-to-go in the car until needed - and have some on hand to share! Co-founder/GM James brought extra cases to the hospital for the nursing staff when both of his sons were born.

Rumble while Breastfeeding

Did you know that breastfeeding women burn an extra 200-500 calories a day, just feeding their baby? Maintaining an adequate milk supply requires you to eat enough (and drink enough liquids) to keep your body nourished, as well as your baby’s. But it’s hard to find the time to food prep or cook with a newborn.

“In the early days with a new baby, you spend so much time on the couch or in bed just nursing!” says Danielle. “Easy, nutritious food you can eat with one hand, while holding your baby - is so key. I probably drank the most Rumble in the middle of the night. I could crack a bottle at 2am and have a few sips throughout the night when I started to get hungry. Because at that time of night, you want something fast and easy to digest. It was so helpful, I often buy Rumble for new mom friends as a baby shower gift.” Have a new mom friend in your life? Give her $10 off her first case.

And when you’re ready to get back into that workout routine? “Life just keeps getting busier... so now with two kids under three, I still have my Rumble every day!”
