Two Rumble Athletes to Join Team Canada at the Tokyo Olympics

Two of our amazing Rumble-sponsored athletes have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics!

On June 25th in Montreal, runner Lindsey Butterworth automatically qualified for the Canadian Olympic team by setting a new meet record of 1:59.19 in 800m at the national championships. Not only was her performance a personal best and a new Canadian record, but her time was under the Olympic standard - giving her an immediate position on Team Canada for Tokyo.

Like all athletes, Lindsey had to adjust her training and mindset over the pandemic to stay competitive and on-track for future competitions. We’re super proud of her for sticking through it and coming out on top as the new Canadian women’s record holder in 800m.

Joining Lindsey on Team Canada is Bianca Farella, a fellow Rumble athlete and Canadian Rugby 7’s phenom. The Rugby 7’s season was cut short last year due to the pandemic, but Bianca and her team held out hope that the 2020 Olympics would continue. When Team Canada pulled out of the games and the Olympics were postponed a year, it was a struggle for her to stay motivated.

Eventually, Bianca and her team came up with creative new ways to train together, while staying apart. Now she’s stoked to finally head to Tokyo to compete for gold (after winning the bronze medal in 2016!).

We’ll be watching Bianca and Lindsey alongside all of our other incredible Canadian athletes competing at the games this summer - and hope you will too!
